Several years ago, John Colet School introduced The Alphabet of Humanity as part of our character education program. Each letter of the alphabet is linked to a meaningful concept—such as abundance, diversity, and empathy—that we explore with the children. Each week at Assembly, a new word is introduced and discussed. Through reflection and conversation, students build their vocabulary, strengthen their emotional intelligence, and find inspiration in the values we share.
Because we revisit the same words every year, students deepen their understanding as they mature. Over time, these concepts have become a valuable and much‑loved tool for enriching the hearts and minds of our students.
