Deputy Head of School’s Comment
Welcome back to Term 2. The children have returned to school full of energy and enthusiasm. As always at the beginning of the term all the staff spend time together studying material that supports the ethos of our school. On Monday we spent time discussing a TED talk by Teresse Lewis on Teaching Resilience and the priority it should take in children’s education. Our Philosophy program and new Learn Kind program work to give the children the tools to face adversity in life. The best outcome for children is when school and home work together to teach this skill.

A busy start to Term 2
Despite the damp weather and a sharp drop in temperature to start the term, the enthusiasm of our students and teachers, remains undimmed. It is always heartwarming to see the children reconnect after a break, especially the reunions between our 6th Class students and their Lower 1st buddies. These friendships are a treasured part of our school culture.
Looking ahead, we are excited for the P&F Movie Night next Saturday. We are keeping everything crossed for clear skies, but rest assured, our ever-prepared P&F team has a cosy indoor option ready if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Either way, it promises to be a wonderful evening, and we hope to see many of you there!

Cyber safety tips in Second Class
On Wednesday Second Class learnt a lot in the Y-Safety talk at school, and parents could learn about this too through a parents online Y-Safety talk. These talks give practical ways to be safe at home with children online. Second Class learnt some important lessons about safety online, such as the Three Questions for Safe Players online: Do you know their first and last name? Have you met them in real life? Do your parents know them? They also learnt ways to make a safe user name: Favourite Sport + Favourite Song + Favourite Food.

This week in 3rd Class
Third class thoroughly enjoyed yesterday’s History excursion to West Head. We couldn’t have asked for better weather to spend a day outdoors enjoying the bush and learning about Aboriginal connections to Country. The children participated in a number of hands-on activities and learned many interesting facts about Aboriginal culture and traditions. The excursion also informed the work we are currently doing in English – Dreaming stories – as well as in Art. Today the children started writing a recount about their experience. Photos from the excursion have been shared on Class Dojo.
The Maths focus this week was two-dimensional shapes. When discussing the features of 2D shapes, we looked at parallel and perpendicular lines and we learned how we can show that an angle is a right angle. We learned about regular and irregular polygons, and explored quadrilaterals, understanding that there is a subgroup that are called parallelograms. The children learned

Great performances at IPSHA Cross Country
The IPSHA Cross Country Carnival was held on Wednesday, 2 April, with independent schools from across NSW competing at The King’s School, North Parramatta. Ten students from John Colet School had qualified for the event, and all gave their best, tackling a challenging course with determination and grit. The weather was perfect with blue skies, creating an ideal atmosphere for the competition.
Standout performances included:
Declan W (10-year-old boys) with an incredible PB of 7:05min, finishing 16th out of 114 students.
Roland S (11-year-old boys) achieving a PB of 12:11min, placing 37th out of 124 students.
Jessie L (12-year-old girls) with a PB of 14:07min, finishing 49th out of 118 students.
Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and fantastic achievements!

Deputy Head of School’s Comment
Next week we will celebrate two very important events of a very different nature, Anzac and Easter. The children have been preparing for both the events through singing and discussion. There will be hymns for both occasions as well as traditional readings. Both events in their own way celebrate sacrifice, honour and human dignity. Often the very best of humanity rises from the very worst of circumstances.

This week in Lower 1st
We’ve had a wonderful and engaging week in Lower 1st. The children enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and explored the life cycle of a butterfly before beginning to write a recount of the story. They also took an important step in their writing journey by learning how to use a lined book.
In Science, we investigated different types of clouds, discovering how they relate to the weather, and used Cloud Identification Frames to observe the sky alongside our 6th Class buddies.
As a school, we marked Persian New Year, placing Sabzeh on the Haft Seen Table and learning about this special tradition. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Nyla and Niki’s family for organising the beautiful Haft Seen Table for our school.
During Art lessons, the children have been busy creating ceramic pieces, carefully sculpting and painting birds in a nest. This has been a wonderful
