Eight of our budding authors and avid readers from 6th class enjoyed a very special event this week.
On the ‘Hogwarts-esque’ site at ICMS, the Children’s Book Council of Australia hosted an amazing day for students from 20 different schools from around the Northern Beaches. The students were seated for lunch with Australian author Kate Forsyth and had the opportunity to meet and talk with 20 other authors and illustrators.
We were treated to a keynote address from author Tim Harris who spoke about his writing inspirations and participated in an illustration workshop lead by Matt Cosgrove.
The girls declared it was the best event they had been to all year!!

Our Shakespeare Festival Playbill for Primary students
We are proud to announce our Primary Shakespeare Festival program for 2019. Each night’s performances will start at 6pm, and will conclude by 9.30pm. The venue is the Glen Street Theatre. Bookings will open closer to the dates below.

The benefits of stillness – by an 8 year old
I strongly believe that stillness is a great value because it clears your mind. Would you like it if you were always frustrated and angry all the time? Stillness clears our mind to take our thoughts to the next thing we are about to do and it calms your body down if over-excited. That is why I think stillness is an important value to learn.Some of the things we have to do to clear our minds is letting our thoughts pass away and shutting our eyes. So why don’t you try practising stillness now!

Selective, G&T and Scholarship placements
Eight 6th class students so far have been awarded either full or part scholarships, selective school placements and/or places in Gifted and Talented streams in local high schools. Most of these students have received multiple offers to various schools and so they have been considering their options. Well done all!
One seven year old's thoughts on the value of "Stillness"
Stillness is one of our School’s core values: Stillness, Truthfulness, Courage, Service, and Respect. Here is what Arya K from Upper 1st C wrote on the value for a Teachers Day assembly this week.
“Stillness means you being still and not fidgeting. I have learnt about the value of stillness at school and home. I have shown and practised it by pausing with a still and relaxed body. I know my value is appreciated by every teacher I have learnt with because if you don’t get still you will start fidgeting and get distracted and won’t learn. This makes me feel fresh in my mind. I am grateful for Miss Cipollone for showing me stillness.”
Our Midsummer Night's Dream team
Well done to our Midsummer Night’s Dream performance group (pictured above) who came third in the Scene section of the Sydney Eisteddfod at the end of July. The 12 other scenes in the competition where all performed by high schools, so our students really shone!
In March, our Shakespeare Club’s Romeo and Juliet group won then Scene section of the Sport for Jove Shakespeare Carnival.
So it has been a successful year for our Shakespeare Club members! The club has finished for the year, but our Director Zoe Emanuel is already planning next year’s activities. 5th and 6th class students are welcome to enrol for the group at the start of 2020. Watch this space!

Our next Information Event is on Wednesday 31st July at 7.00pm. This is a great opportunity to come along and hear a short presentation on the School, ask questions and meet our Headmaster Mr Julian Wilcock, teachers and student representatives. Private tours can also be arranged during the school week.
