Learning about the use of dialect in an Australian classic

In English last week 4th Class continued reading Storm Boy. They discussed the dialect known as Aboriginal English used by one of the characters of Aboriginal heritage, Fingerbone Bill. This is a form of English governed by a unique set of rules and is spoken by a large proportion of First Nation people in Australia. They also continued to analyse the language devices used in descriptions of settings. This week children will use these language devices to write their own descriptions. In Maths, they inished Position by looking at the amount of turn (degrees) between compass points and describing a return journey on a grid map. In Geography, the students continued exploring natural resources provided by the environment and how they help us. In Philosophy, they started a scripture unit called World Faiths in which they will discuss common threads amongst religions.
